How much does an average deck cost?
Every deck we build at Just Decks is unique and as such, pricing can vary widely. The type of materials you choose to utilize, and the complexity of each project will determine the exact price of your deck. We recommend that you allow our staff to consult with you in person before finalizing your deck plans, as it will give you a chance to fully consider all the material and design options available to you, which will effect the final costs.
[RETURN TO TOP]Why choose a Cedar deck over pressure treated lumber?
The majority of our new decks utilize Western Red Cedar for many important reasons. Many people prefer Cedar over other chemically treated woods because of the look and smell of the wood and because Cedar tends to have a lot less slivers than, for example spruce or others low-grade wood materials.
Also bear in mind, that a Cedar deck will increase the value of your home by a much greater margin than will a deck constructed of a less expensive wood material.
[RETURN TO TOP]Can I stain a cedar deck?
Yes, Cedar can be stained. However, bear in mind that if you do stain your Cedar deck, you may have to do it again every 2 to 3 years depending on sun exposure and weather conditions. We recommend letting your Cedar deck grey naturally and we also recommend washing it 2 or 3 times per year with standard dishwashing soap and water to keep it clean in a pollution-free manor. You can also clean your deck with a "deck wash” available at most local hardware stores.
[RETURN TO TOP]Can I power wash my deck?
Regardless of the wood used to build your deck, power washing is not recommended unless you are very careful. The foot-pound pressure of today’s power washers can seriously damage and splinter any soft woods and even many hardwoods. We recommend that you use a standard garden hose with a spray nozzle attachment.
Just Decks uses a power wash system to clean decks, but they are also very experienced and careful to ensure that the wood materials on your deck will not be splintered or damaged in any way.
When cleaning your deck, avoid using chemicals such as standard chlorine bleaches, as they will discolour and damage the wood.
The only bleach you should use to clean your deck are oxygen bleach cleaners which are non-toxic and clean wood beautifully. Oxygen bleach, once applied, forms a froth on the deck and the millions of oxygen bubbles will deep clean the wood while you watch.
[RETURN TO TOP]When is the best time to buy and build my new deck?
At Just Decks we believe it is best to try and arrange to buy your deck during the off-season, which is late September to November. An added advantage to early planning is that you will likely be able to take advantage of the current year's lumber prices, which can result in significant savings over waiting until the Spring of the following year.
If you choose to order your new deck during the busy season, be sure to contact Just Decks as early on in the planning phase as possible, so that we can book our crews in advance, to serve you faster.

When you have decided that you are ready to plan and build a new deck project, contact Just Decks as early on as possible. It is wise to book a consultation as far advance as possible to reduce waiting time and leave yourself ample time to make any necessary design revisions.
Once you have consulted with our designers and craftspeople, you will have seen hundreds of photographs from which you can make many decisions concerning types of materials, deck and railing styles, privacy screens and many other choices that will help shape your new deck project.
Once these decisions are finalized, our designers will present a design for your approval. In some cases, there will be revisions made until you are completely satisfied with the detailed final design. From there, the construction phase includes scheduling of start date(s), obtaining any necessary building permits and other necessary arrangements prior to construction.
